Craft Anyone?

By Jelaine Foster   Raise a hand if growing up you owned a sewing machine - or a box – that had crochet and embroidery materials, needles and thread!  Again raise your hand if you own/owned various crochet, embroidery or knitted items (pillow cases, runners, tams, bed spreads, tea-cloths, pictures etc.)   Put up both hands if you know the difference between crochet and crochet braids.  Finally, raise the roof if you’ve ever knitted or crocheted a dress, pillow case or decorative piece.  Think of your grandparents, parents or family members and recall the decorative items commonly seen in their homes. Covid at Christmas

If Jamaicans continue to adhere to the protocols enacted under the Disaster Risk Management Act to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the island, restrictions could be relaxed over the Christmas period. The prime minister pointed to a noticeable trend over recent days where fewer persons were being infected with COVID-19 while the number of persons who have recovered from the disease was now higher than the number of active cases. “After the spike in August and September, our growth in new cases has been slowing down and our recoveries increasing, which has resulted in the number of active cases showing moderate and modest dec...

Six Tips to Overcome Covid-19 stress

Covid-19 has caused increased stress levels in almost everyone. This is a normal response to changes in our environment, but the extended period of stress caused by a prolonged response to change, will have negative effects on our physical and mental health. We used to do this by touching our faces or giving someone a hug or a pat on the shoulder. With public health demands for physical-distancing and scientific advice that discourages touching, we must find other ways to break the st...
